Broxil is a small-spectrum antibiotic and contains the gastric acid-stable penicillin derivative pheneticillin potassium.

Broxil is used to treat infections caused by Streptococci and certain species of Staphylococci.

  • Upper respiratory tract infections like pharyngitis;
  • Lower respiratory tract infections like pneumonia;
  • Infections of skin (e.g. erysipelas) and soft tissue like impetigo or abscesses.

Broxil is available as 250 mg and 500 mg capsules, as well as 125 mg/5 ml powder for oral suspension.

Legal status

Broxil is a licensed medicine in the Netherlands.

When this medicine is supplied outside the Netherlands, it is considered to be an unlicensed medicine in the country of the recipient.
