Cytomel®

Cytomel contains the active substance liothyronine, which is identical to the thyroid hormone T3. It is used, in combination with levothyroxine (T4), to treat an underactive thyroid gland. Cytomel is also used in the treatment of non-toxic goitre (an enlargement of the thyroid gland without an abnormal thyroid function) and for a T3-suppression test to differentiate hypothyroidism from euthyroidism.

Cytomel is available in tablets with 5, 12.5 and 25 microgram liothyronine.
